CENTORRINO Marco

Since 2019, he has been an Associate Professor of Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes in the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations (formerly the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy) at the University of Messina, where he began his academic career in 2005 as a Researcher. Within the department, he teaches Sociology of Communication.
Since October 2024, he has held qualification for Full Professorship.
Since February 2024, he has served as Deputy Director of the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations at the University of Messina.
Since September 2023, he has been Secretary of the Scientific Board of the Section for Cultural Processes and Institutions (PIC) of the Italian Sociological Association for the 2023–2026 term.
As of November 2024, he is Principal Investigator of the research project CONGENIA (Knowledge Transfer between Generations and Experts in Enterprises through Artificial Intelligence). The project received €3,540,000 in funding under the National Program for Research, Innovation, and Competitiveness 2021–2027.
Since October 2024, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the ITS Academy Albatros Foundation—a Higher Technical Institute in Messina—representing the University of Messina.
From 2013 to 2018, he was Rector’s Delegate for Communication at the University of Messina.
From 2017 to 2019, and again from 2020 to 2022, he was Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Information Sciences: Public Communication and Journalism Techniques at the University of Messina.

His research activity has focused on three main areas:
• The media representation of political communication.
• The use of new technologies, with a specific focus on the electronic entertainment industry.
• The study of mass media, based on an encoding/decoding framework, with a focus on mass phenomena linked to so-called popular culture.
