1979 ‘Laurea’ in Physics (110/110 cum laude)- University of Messina
1980-1983 Fellowship at Institute of Structure of Matter, Faculty of M.F.N. Sciences, University of Messina.
1983-1992 Researcher, Faculty of M.F.N. Sciences, University of Messina
1992-2005 Associate Professor of Solid State Physics, Faculty of M.F.N. Sciences, University of Messina
since 2005 Full Professor of Experimental Physics, Faculty of M.F.N. Sciences, University of Messina.

Research Activity
The expertise is mainly related to experimental studies and technological applications developments in the solid state physics field, mostly devoted to thin films deposition techniques, nanostructured materials synthesis and spectroscopic diagnostic investigations. Co-author, of over 200 publications in international scientific journals and of about one hundred communications at international and national conferences (10/09/2023 document results from SCOPUS: h-index 34, articles 225, citations 4073).
Current research interests:
• Synthesis and diagnostics of nanostructured materials both in colloidal and thin film form
• Electronic and optical spectroscopy characterization of nanostructured compounds

Manager of the following research laboratories at the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Physical Sciences and Earth Sciences (University of Messina):
• Microanalysis Laboratory (Electron Microscopy SEM, STEM and Microanalysis)
• Thin Films Laboratory (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy & Imaging)
• Nanomaterials Laboratory (Laser ablation in liquids, ultrasonic spraying and electrospinning for metallic and dielectric nanoaggregates synthesis)
• Electronics and Chemistry Service Laboratories (supporting Micro and Nano-Systems MNS research group)
Advisor for several doctoral thesis dissertations dealing mainly with experimental research in nanostructured materials and thin film preparations, characterization and applications.
Leader of research activities (INFM), scientific research projects (PRIN local unit) and industrial research projects funded by public institutions (MIUR) and private corporation (ST-Microelectronics).
Co-organizer, since 2003, of the biennial international workshop on Plasma Production by Laser Ablation (PPLA).
From 2022 editorial board member of Materials scientific magazine (MDPI).
Referee of international scientific journals.


Teaching Experience
1992–today several courses at the Faculty of M.F.N. Sciences and at the Faculty of Engineering of the Messina University (Solid State Physics, General Physics, Solid State Electronics, Micro-Optoelectronics Laboratory;
currently: Spectroscopy and Photonics (Master’s Degree in Physics), Physics laboratory 2A-2B (Bachelor’s Degree in Physics).
1995–1999 Member of the Teachers' Council Doctorate School in “Physics”, University of Messina.
2001–2013 Member of the Teachers' Council Doctorate School in “Advanced Technologies for Optoelectronics, Photonics and Electromagnetic Modelling”, University of Messina.
2014-today Member of the Teachers' Council Doctorate School in “Physics”, University of Messina.
Advisor of several thesis dissertations dealing mainly with experimental research in the solid state physics and materials science fields.
