Sustainability and the 2030 Agenda in German linguistics: discursive, specialized and didactic approaches
Group This research group investigates the intersections between language, environment, and sustainability through an interdisciplinary approach that combines linguistics, discourse analysis, ecolinguistics, political linguistics, and foreign language education. Particular emphasis is placed on the vocabulary and communicative strategies used to discuss the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in institutional documents, media, and scientific discourse. The group explores how language constructs, conveys, and at times distorts sustainability narratives, with a focus on phenomena such as greenwashing and the political and economic rhetoric surrounding ecological issues. A specific area of interest is the didactic potential within the teaching of German as a Foreign Language (DaF), aiming to incorporate sustainability as a linguistic, cultural, and critical content area.
