Laino Castello Project

The group's line of research concerns an integrated and global approach to the study of the medieval castle, perhaps originally Longobards, of Laino Castello, never the subject of previous systematic archaeological investigations and superfetate in later times. The project involved the collection of literary and epigraphic sources and the proceeding bibliography; study of historical cartography and available aerial and satellite images; topographic and detailed survey of the visible structures; creation and management of GIS; design and execution of surface surveys in urban and extra-urban areas; design and implementation of geophysical and magnetometric prospecting; design and execution of extensive archaeological excavations; collection, classification, archiving and study of recovered mobile finds; historicization of the results obtained in order to reconstruct the archaeological history of the city and its territory.
