TRIFILO' Patrizia

Full Professor of Plant Physiology at the University of Messina since January 2024, after serving as Associate Professor (2014–2024) and Assistant Professor (2006–2014). She obtained a PhD in Ecophysiology of Plant Species from the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria in 2007 and was Research Fellow at the University of Trieste (2001–2003).
Her research focuses on plant hydraulics, water relations, drought stress physiology, and plant adaptive responses to environmental stress. She is author/co-author of 60 peer-reviewed international publications, book chapters, and university textbooks in plant physiology and ecophysiology. Current bibliometric indicators (Scopus, May 2026): H-index 30, more than 2,500 citations.
She was Principal Investigator of the PRIN-PNRR project HYDRA (2023–2025), aimed at improving plant resilience through hydrochar application, and Task Leader within the PNRR project SAMOTHRACE. She has participated in several national and international research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and other institutions.
She serves on the Editorial Boards of Plants, Forests, and Trees, Forests and People, and on the Reviewer Boards of Tree Physiology and Frontiers in Plant Science. She is also reviewer for leading international journals and funding agencies, including the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).
She teaches Plant Physiology, Molecular Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, and Ecophysiology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised more than 45 Bachelor’s and Master’s theses and several PhD students.
She is currently Erasmus and Internationalization Delegate of the Department and Vice Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Programme in Biology of Health, Technologies and Nutrition at the University of Messina. Since 2002 she has been member of the Italian Society of Plant Biology (SIBV).
