Description
Giorgio Forni is a full professor of Italian Literature at the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilization of the University of Messina.
His research interests span from the Renaissance classicism to modern and contemporary Italian literature: vernacular lyric and romance epic narrative between Boiardo and Tasso; forms of religious literature in the printed age (devotional manuals, religious poetry, sermons, mystical writings), literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth century.
After having graduated in Italian Literature at the University of Bologna with a thesis on “Humoristic Literature and Italian Culture in the 18th and 19th centuries” under the supervision of Ezio Raimondi, Forni obtained in 1999 a Ph.D. in Italian Studies under the leading of Giorgio Cerboni Baiardi at the University of Urbino. This research on “Short Forms of Renaissance Poetry” was published in 2001 (“Forme brevi della poesia. Tra Umanesimo e Rinascimento”, Pisa, Pacini). He has published "Pluralità del petrarchismo" (Pisa, Pacini, 2011), "Risorgimento dell'ironia. Riso, persona e sapere nella tradizione letteraria italiana" (Roma, Carocci, 2012), "Il nemico interno. Politica, spiritualità e letteratura fra Cinque e Seicento" (Novara, Interlinea, 2018), and the critical editions of Giovanni Verga's works for the new series of the Edizione nazionale delle opere di Giovanni Verga ("Novelle rusticane", Novara, Interlinea, 2016; "Primavera", Novara, Interlinea, 2020; "Abbozzi di romanzi", Novara, Interlinea, 2023).
Forni has given national and international lectures and seminars. He is currently writing on important reviews of Italian Studies as "Annali della Fondazione Verga", “Intersezioni”, “Lettere italiane”, “Schede Umanistiche”, “Studi sul Boccaccio”.
