PIPERNO Anna

Dr. Anna Piperno, was born in Vibo Valentia (22/01/1970). She was graduated in “Chimica e Tecnologia Farmaceutiche” at the University of Messina in 1994 (110/110 cum laude).
In 1994, she won the fellowship "Bonino-Pulejo. In 1998 she obtained the PhD qualification in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2001 she became Researcher in Organic Chemistry at the University of Messina, where she is still working. The University of Messina entrusted her continuously with various teachings in Organic Chemistry from the A.A. 2001-2002. From 2013 she is a member of the teaching team of the of the PhD in “Chemical Sciences”
In 2006 the University of Messina confers on her the prize “Young Researcher”
Dr. Piperno has been appointed as Associate Professor in Organic Chemistry on December 2013.
She has a great experience in the field of organic synthesis methodologies and chemistry of heterocyclic compounds focused on the design and synthesis of new compounds that interfere with viral replication or with cell death/proliferation.
In the past few years her research activity has been mostly focused on the functionalization of carbon nanomaterials and biopolymers for applications in drug delivery, regenerative medicine and biosensing.
Dr Anna Piperno have collaborated with pharmaceutical industries for the management of projects in the field of drug delivery. From 2006 to 2010, she was appointed as advisor for the project “Innovative Studies of Synthesis and Delivery Systems of New Molecules of Pharmaceutical Interest for the Animal Health”. Currently, she is involved in Biomedical District PON Sicilia (“Drug Delivery: Vehicles for sustainable innovation” and in the project BiLiGeCT - PON MIUR - ARS01_00492.
She is author of more than 120 papers published in peer-reviewed journals and in about 100 communications at national and international meetings.
