Course Objectives

A total of 3.0 CFU (3.0 CFU frontal teaching and 2.0 CFU internship) is allocated to the course of Dental Prosthetics. Within the scope of the educational objectives defined by the CLMOPD Manifesto of Studies, the teaching aims to achieve knowledge of the scientific basis and theoretical-practical preparation necessary for correct treatment plans in all phases of fixed prosthetic rehabilitation from a functional and aesthetic point of view. Students will learn the principles, indications and contraindications of fixed prosthetics on both teeth and implants. In addition to the dental condition, students should know all local and general factors that influence the choice of treatment plan, such as age, secondary functional activity, and health status. Because clinical situationsichenvary, the goal of the training is to provide students with the ability to apply the knowledge gained rationally on a case-by-case basis, both in planning and during treatment. Students should know the indications, limitations and contraindications of fixed prosthetic treatment and, when necessary, be able to recommend the most appropriate treatment option for restoring proper masticatory and esthetic function The course provides the knowledge necessary to understand the physical, chemical, and biomechanical properties of the various materials used in fixed prosthetics. Simulated practice on models includes application of various impression-taking techniques in addition to preparation of dental elements and fabrication of temporary crowns.
