Latin Galen: manuscripts and editions

Group
The research group on Latin Galen: manuscripts and editions aims to integrate and update, through the creation of a new electronic catalogue, the list of manuscripts of Greek physicians published between 1905 and 1907 by Hermann Diels, which also includes Galen and which for the Latin part is largely incomplete and unsatisfactory. The project involves several Italian and foreign scholars, coordinated by Stefania Fortuna. The research group is dedicated to compiling the cards relating to works, translation, translators, manuscripts of Galen and to printed editions since 1473 and to revise them; moreover, the group elaborates new scholarship on the five topics of the cards. The catalogue exploits the unpublished studies by Richard Durling, who collected observations on about six hundred Latin manuscripts of Galen through microfilms from libraries all around the world. The observations were meant for the publication of a volume in Kristeller's collection Catalogus translationum et commentariorum, which could not be finalised due to the death of Durling.
