Overview

The research line of the group concerns an integrated and global approach to the study of an abandoned and ruralized ancient city, which has never been the subject of previous archaeological investigations, through the following steps: Collection of literary, numismatic and epigraphic sources; collection of the bibliography; study of historical cartography and available aerial and satellite images; topographical and detailed survey of the surviving structures; creation of a new cartographic base; creation and management of the GIS; of survey in urban and extra-urban areas; geophysical and magnetic prospecting in urban areas; planning and execution of extensive archaeological excavations; collection, classification, filing and study of the recovered mobile finds; study of coin finds for the reconstruction of the coin circulation in the area and creation of a corpus of the issues of the ancient mint; historicization of the results obtained with the aim of reconstructing the archaeological history of the city from its earliest (Neolithic) to the most recent phases, from the middle and late Byzantine period, following which the ruralisation process of the affected hilly area began.
