The research unit is made up of archaeologists from the University of Messina who collaborate in the management and implementation of the project, a multi-year project of global approach to the study of the city on the hill of Santa Gada in Laino Borgo, the most important archaeological settlement in the Lao-Mercure valley, the Oenotrian, Lucanian and Roman city, and its territory. More specifically, the group includes professors from the DICAM department of the University of Messina of the SSD L-ANT/04, L-ANT/07, as well Unime PhDs.

Overview

The group's line of research concerns an integrated and global approach to the study of the ancient center located on the hill of Santa Gada di Laino Borgo, never the subject of previous archaeological investigations. The project involved the collection of literary and epigraphic sources and the proceeding bibliography; study of historical cartography and available aerial and satellite images; topographic and detailed survey of the visible structures; creation and management of GIS; design and execution of surface surveys in urban and extra-urban areas; design and implementation of geophysical and magnetometric prospecting; design and execution of extensive archaeological excavations; collection, classification, archiving and study of recovered mobile finds; historicization of the results obtained in order to reconstruct the archaeological history of the city and its territory.
