The research unit is made up of archaeologists from the University of Messina who collaborate in the management and implementation of the project, a multi-year project of global approach to the study of the municipal territory of Castelluccio Inferiore (PZ), headquarters of important Oenotrian, Lucanian and Roman settlements in the Lao-Mercure valley. More specifically, the group includes professors from the DICAM department of the University of Messina of the SSD L-ANT/07, as well Unime PhDs.

Overview

The group's line of research concerns an integrated and global approach to the study of the municipal territory of Castelluccio Inferiore (PZ), bordering and contiguous to the territory of Laino Borgo, the subject of previous very episodic archaeological investigations. The project involved the collection of literary and epigraphic sources and the proceeding bibliography; study of historical cartography and available aerial and satellite images; topographic and detailed survey of the visible structures; creation and management of GIS; design and execution of surface surveys in urban and extra-urban areas; design and implementation of geophysical and magnetometric prospecting. These actions are aimed, at the end of the three-year period 2021-2023, at identifying areas where to design and execute extensive archaeological excavations in order to operate the collection, classification, archiving and study of the recovered mobile finds and try to define the settlement methods in the municipal territory
