Overview

The project aims at the collection of the already published data of Roman-imperial hoards in Sicily, their revision - autoptic analysis, where possible - and the implementation of what is already known with new unpublished materials that will be uploaded into the CHRE portal, a project started years ago for the cataloguing of all hoards containing Roman-imperial coins, even outside the borders of the Empire in a time span between 30 BC and 400 AD. The main purpose of the present research group (CHRE-Sicily) is to use the collected, reordered and revised hoarding data, in comparison with all the known data on individual coin finds, to understand the dynamics of coin circulation and the characteristics of the economy in the imperial age in Sicily, comparing it with other realities of the Empire in its various phases
