Digital Iconographic Atlas of Numismatics in Antiquity (DIANA

Group
The research group consists of a DiCAM professor (Mariangela Puglisi) and a MIFT professor (Antonio Celesti) and was launched as part of the activities of the University of Messina research unit "Moneta e identità mediterranea" within the PRIN 2009 (“Moneta e identità territoriale: dalla Polis antica alla Civitas medioevale”). The group, at its start coordinated by M. Caltabiano, a DiCAM professor now retired, is also composed of Grazia Salamone (independent researcher, former ‘assegnista’ DiCAM), Benedetto Carroccio, professor at the University of Calabria), active as external collaborators.

Overview

DIANA is the acronym of 􏰐Digital Iconographic Atlas of Numismatics in Antiquity’. It is an iconographic digital atlas, which follows the method of the 􏰏LIN Project (Lexicon Iconographicum Numismaticae)”, and it consists of a web application that ma􏰎es it possible to analyze coin iconographies’ distribution according to time and space through digital maps. The main object of DIANA is to create a digital archive which focuses on coin iconography.
