The Italian Archaeological Mission has been operating in Hierapolis di Phrygia (Turkey) since 1957 without interruption and is composed of several research groups, headed by Italian and foreign universities and other research institutes. The universities currently represented within the Mission are the University of Salento, which also expresses the Director of the Mission (Prof. Grazia Semeraro) and the Universities of Messina, Florence, Turin / Polytechnic, Rome / Sapienza, Pamukkale / Denizli (Turkey). The individual groups carry out research activities on the ancient city independently but coordinated by the direction of the Mission, on the basis of programs defined annually and fully sharing methodologies and intervention strategies. Since 2006, the University of Messina has been running a research group set up and coordinated by the undersigned, of which students of archeology courses and students of the Research Doctorate have been part of it over time.
