Phytochemical investigations and evaluation of the biological properties (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroactive, anti-melanogenic and anti-angiogenic) of extracts and secondary metabolites obtained from plant species native to Sicily or used in Traditional Medicine, also from biomass produced by different “in vitro” culture systems and processing waste.
Phytognostic analysis, phytochemical characterization and evaluation of the potential therapeutic activity of the secondary metabolites from native species or used in traditional medicine
Quality control of herbal drugs through qualitative and quantitative microscopic analysis techniques: identification of phytognostic markers essential for the correct identification of organs/tissues, site of production and/or accumulation of biologically active secondary metabolites, in plants formulations, to achieve a correct and comparable qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the potential pharmacological and/or toxicological activities.
