Description
graduated in 1989 from the Istituto Universitario Orientale (now Università di Napoli L’Orientale) in Spanish Literature. In 1993, she received a scholarship from the Institut d’Estudis Catalans for a research stay at the University of Barcelona, and in 1995 earned a Ph.D. in Romance Philology and Linguistics from the University of Naples Federico II.
She was adjunct professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Calabria (1989–1999) and the University of Cassino (1990–1991). Since 2000, she has been at the University of Messina: researcher until 2017, associate professor until 2021, and currently full professor of Spanish Literature. She also taught Catalan Language and Literature (Naples L’Orientale, 2001–2006) and History of the Spanish Language (University of Catania, 2016–2017). Former vice-president of AISC (2006–2008), she is a member of international research groups and editorial boards, and co-directs the series Arti e visioni (Edizioni dell’Orso).
Her research focuses on medieval and modern Spanish literature, Catalan literature, and interculturality in the Iberian world. She has served on doctoral boards and international committees (Universidad Rovira i Virgili, Jaume I, Las Palmas) and is currently part of the Ph.D. program Transferencias Interculturales e Históricas en la Europa Medieval Mediterránea (Universitat d’Alacant).
She has participated in numerous international conferences and delivered lectures at institutions including Columbia University and Wake Forest University (visiting professor, 2010). In 2020, she was visiting scholar at ADHUC, University of Barcelona. She has published Frontiere del romanzo (2020); Personaggi perduti. Aspetti del romanzo spagnolo tra Otto e Novecento (2009); «Tirant lo Blanc» e la tradizione medievale (1997); annotated editions of Le vergini folli, Juan Goytisolo (La Spagna e gli spagnoli), Jordi de Sant Jordi (L’amoroso cerchio); and numerous articles in Spanish, Catalan, and Italian.
