CAMBRIA Mariavita

Mariavita Cambria's research interests include discourse and genre analysis, contemporary varieties of English (Irish English), Irish Studies, multimodality, language testing and validation.
She is tenured Assistant Professor in English Language and Linguistics (SSD L-Lin 12), Dipartimento di Civiltà Antiche e Moderne (Department of Ancient and Modern Civilization), University of Messina (Italy). After getting a MPhil in “Irish Theatre Studies” (Trinity College Dublin, Ireland) in 1997, she attended a PhD programme (2000-2003) in “English and Angloamerican Studies” (University of Catania) and was awarded a PhD degree in 2004. In 2001, she began working as a tutor in English language at CLAM (University Language Centre of Messina). In 2003, she started collaborating with C.L.A.M research group as item writer and has been in charge of the group from 2006 to 2007. She is co-leader of CERCLES (Confédération Européenne des Centres de Langues de l'Enseignement Supérieur) focus group “Teacher training, teacher education, staff exchange”. She is on the editorial board of the international journals Im@go. The journal of the social imaginary and K Revue trans-européenne de philosophie et arts and is in the board of Directors of the International Research Centre “LinE – Language in education” (https://languageineducation.eu/en/).
Her life-long interest in Irish studies is reflected in her volumes on Irish English (Rubbettino, 2012) and on the Irish women's movement (Prova d'Autore, 2001). She has also published several articles on genre and discourse analysis, online newspapers, testing and validation. She has co-edited a book on web genres and a book on the centenary of the First World War.
