CRISAFULLI Concetta

Concetta Crisafulli was born in Messina (Italy), on June 09, 1975. She obtained her Biology Degree (2003), magna cum laude, at the Faculty of Science MM.FF.NN., University of Messina.
She obtained PhD in “Experimental Medicine” (2008) at Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine and Pharmacology, School of Medicine, University of Messina; with Specialization in "Medical Genetics".
During her training she has been involved in national and international research and educational activities concerning Genetics and Molecular Biology, in particular in the context of inflammatory disease and drug treatments.
In 2010, she worked as visiting researcher at the Istitute of Psychiatry “P. Ottonello”, University of Bologna.
She is member of several organizations in the fields of pharmacology and genetics and molecular biology.
In 2008 she won “Young Researcher” award at the University of Messina (scientific production in 2007 - Macroarea-Pharmacological Biomedical)
She is currently Medical Genetics Associate Professor (MEDS-01/A (Med/03)) at the Department of Biomedical and Dental Sciences and Morphofunctional Imaging, University of
Messina.
Her most recent research interests focus on neuroscience, with a particular focus on understanding the molecular, clinical, and genetic mechanisms underlying genetically determined diseases, their diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Studies on the genetic variability implicated in susceptibility to complex phenotypes, particularly, but not limited to, neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Recently, she has been developing projects and studies in the fields of cancer genetics and immunogenetics, with a focus on HLA-related diseases.
Her scientific research is documented by over 130 full-length papers and over 60 National and International Conference abstracts (posters and presentations).
