Description
Primary research areas of prof. Brianti are epidemiology and control of vector-borne diseases of companion animals particularly of those underestimated or emerging and of zoonotic concerns (e.g., leishmaniasis and filariosis). Part of his research activities have been also dedicated to the study of feline lungworms. In this latter filed, thanks to his research activity, new species of metastrongyloid lungworms have been re-discovered as agents of disease in both domestic and wild cats. He is/has been titular of research grants from public and private institutions for studies related to the epidemiological surveillance and control of parasites of zoonotic concern and for field studies designed for the evaluation of the efficacy of veterinary products against helminth and arthropod infections of dogs and cats. He has been tutor of more than 30 theses for the Degree in Veterinary Medicine and 4 PhD thesis. Prof. Brianti has been called to deliver seminars on parasitic diseases of public health interest at more than 40 courses for the “Permanent Education of Physicians and Veterinarians” recognised by the Italian Ministry of Health.
He is in the board of the Società Italiana di Parassitologia (SoIPa), member of the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP), and member of the World Association for the Advancement in Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP). He is diplomate at the European Veterinary Parasitology College and serves as member of the Educational Committee of the same college since 2020. He served as Subject Editor for the international journal Parasites and Vectors from 2017 to 2021 and has been Associate Editor for the same journal from 2014 to 2016. Since January 2021, he is Co-Editor of the international journal Current Research in Parasitology & Vector-Borne Diseases.
