Description
Prof. Vincenzo Chiofalo received a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Messina (Italy) in 1987. In 1988 research activity University of Catania (Italy) Agriculture Faculty – Animal Production. In 1989 research activity Veterinary Faculty of University of Milan – Institute of Animal Feed. In 1989 University of Messina (Italy) Researcher in Animal Nutrition. From 1990 to 1991 and in 1996 stage at Research Center of Ruminant Nutrition (Feed intake) National Institute of Agronomic Research (I.N.R.A.) di Theix Clermont-Ferrand (France). In 1998 he became Associate Professor in Animal Nutrition (AGR/18) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Messina. Since 2002 he is Full Professor in Animal Nutrition - University of Messina. He was head of the Morphology, Biochemical, Physiology and Animal Production Department of University of Messina (Italy) from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 to 2012 Dean of the Veterinary Faculty - University of Messina. From 2011 to 2013 President of Foundation of Technical Institute “Albatros”. From 2013 Delegate of Research in life science of University of Messina. In 2014 Delegate of the University of Messina for Expo Milan. Furthermore, Prof. Chiofalo was member of Academic Senate of University of Messina. From 2001 to 2022 he was president of Consortium Research of Meat Quality and AgriFood of Sicilian region, certified by Accredia for laboratories and public institution certified by Ministry of Agriculture to certificate food and certified by Accredia. In 2003 UE project key action 5: Sustainable Agriculture, Area 5.1.1 Animal health and welfare, n° QLRT-1999-01507 as Co-Partner “CAttle TRAnsportation” (CATRA). Since 2014 he is administrator of Unirelab srl of Ministry of Agriculture of Italy to control doping in human and horses. Prof. Chiofalo has been member of the organizing and scientific committees of national and international meetings and he was member of the technical committee of National Association of Sheep and Goats Breeders (ASSONAPA) and now he is member of steering committee of Italian Society of Pathology and Breeding of sheep and goat (SIPAOC), member of the following scientific association: International Goat Association (IGA), Italian Society of Veterinary Sciences (SISVet), Scientific Association of Animal Production (ASPA). Prof. Chiofalo was scientific responsible of the European project “Technology Innovation of Feed Industry” of the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technological Research (MIUR). He was also scientific responsible for national research projects financed by MIUR (PRIN 2003 – PRIN 2008) and scientific responsible of project of National Operational Programme (PON) financed by MIUR: “Technological interventions on broiler production: quality and safety of meat in human nutrition” (2002-2005). Prof. Chiofalo has been involved in many projects on industrial research and technological innovation and since 2012 he participates in: PanLab (PON Research and Competitiveness 2007-2013) advanced and innovative laboratories for feed and food; he has been scientific responsible for the University of Messina for the project BE&SAVE – Smart cities and communities and social innovation, technological transfer and innovation industrial research for use agriculture waste to animal feed for food production. He has been scientific responsible of BIO4BIO - “Biomolecular and Energy valorization of residual biomass from Agroindustry and Fishing Industry, technological transfer and innovation industrial research for use agriculture byproducts as feed for food production. He coordinate regional (PO FESR) and national (PON, ECC) projects regarding industrial research and innovation technologies between small and medium enterprise and research center. He is the author of 250 scientific papers published on national and international journals, 10 book chapters, and chairman and invited lecturer in national and international congresses and meetings. His research activity is dedicated to the aspects of animal production and nutrition, especially referring to the role of nutrition on health, immune system response, growth performances and quality from feed to food. Research activity concerns also feed quality (methods of conservation), the feeding system and nutrition of goats, ewes, cows, beef cattle, pigs and buffalo, the physiological mechanisms of feeding behavior from feed industries to food production with particular regard to food safety.
