GIUFFRIDA Daniele

Daniele Giuffrida is currently an Associate Professor of Food Chemistry, at the University of Messina, Italy. On the 4th of April 2018, he was judged suitable for the position of University Full Professor. His current research interests are focused i) on the chemical composition and nutritional properties and health benefits of natural and processed foods and ii) on the pigments production, isolation and characterization from microbial sources. In July 2015 he held the course entitled "Promoting Health-Food Ingredients: Carotenoid Science and Technology" at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia-Bogota Headquarters. During April 2017, he was invited at the University of Panama, as a Visiting Professor. He is member of the International Carotenoid Society, and has been elected as Council Member (ICS Council) for the period 2017-2023. He was a member of the International Advisory Board of the 19th International Symposium on Carotenoids (ISC2023). On the 14th of July 2023 has been bestowed the honor of the Fellowship to the International Carotenoids Society and has received the Paul Karrer medal. He is an active member of the EUROCAROTEN Network. He is a member of the Editorial Board of: Antioxidants, and ACS Food Science & Technology. He currently teaches courses in "Food Bioactive Molecules", and "Food Chemistry" at Messina University. He review for various scientific journals. He is the author of 8 book chapters, 109 research articles and 167 congress presentations. He has participated, presenting invited lectures, Key-note, oral communications in many National and International Conferences. He was also involved in the organizing and scientific committee of National and International Conferences. Currently carries out research in collaboration with various universities and institutes both national and international. He followed, as supervisor, many students in the First Degree theses and PhD Degree, and served as External examiner in International Ph D Defences.
