Description
Elena Caliri is Professor of Roman History at the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations (University of Messina).
Fields of expertise
- Social and economic history of the ancient world and Late Antiquity with special attention to agrarian history, the management of landed estates in Southern Italy and Sicily

- 1988: Degree in Lettere Classiche (DLitt), University of Messina (110/110 cum laude).
- 1994: PhD in Ancient History, University of Messina.
- 1992-2001: tenured teacher of Humanities, Latin and Greek in secondary schools (Liceo Classico).
- 2002-2014: Researcher for Roman History (with tenure), University of Messina.
- 2014-2022: Associate Professor for Roman History, University of Messina.

- 2002–today, ‘Roman History’ for the three years Degree Courses in Philosophy, Cultural Heritagy, Humanities and for the MA Course in Classical Tradition, University of Messina; ‘Epigraphy, Institutions and Society of the Roman World’ for the MA Course in Mediterranean Archaeology.
2007-2013: member of the Theaching Staff of the Doctorate in Ancient Archaeological and Historical Sciences (University of Messina).
2014-today: member of the Teaching Staff of the Doctoral School in Historical, Archaeological and Philological Sciences (University of Messina), with teaching and tutoring assignments.
- 2016/17: Coordinator of the XXIX PhD cycle in Ancient Archaeological and Historical Sciences.

PRIN 1994: Member of the Scientific Research Program of Relevant National Interest "For a critical-textual review, translation and commentary of the 'Bibliotheca historica' of Diodorus of Agira".
1996: Participation in the Strategic Project "The Mediterranean System", promoted by National Council of the Research with M. Barra Bagnasco, E. De Miro and A. Pinzone.
PRIN 1997: Member of the Scientific Research Program of Relevant National Interest "Relations between Sicily and southern Italy in the Roman-Republican age".
PRIN 1999: Member of the Scientific Research Program of Relevant National Interest "The cities of north-eastern Sicily and southern Calabria in the Hellenistic-Roman age".
