Description
After being a researcher in Physical Chemistry (1993-1998) and associate professor in Inorganic Chemistry (1998-2001), actually Luigi Monsù Scolaro is full professor of Inorganic Chemistry, at the Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche, University of Messina. He has been affiliate member of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica della Materia (INFM), Section C, Messina and he is actually associated to the Istituto per lo Studio dei Materiali Nanostrutturati (ISMN-CNR, Messina Section). He is also collaborating with the Istituto per i Processi Chimico Fisici (IPCF-CNR). Since 2004 he is the local director of the Research Unit of Messina for the "Consorzio Interuniversitario di Ricerca dei Metalli nei Sistemi Biologici".
The research activity, documented by more than 200 papers on peer-reviewed journals and presented as oral and poster communications or invited lectures to more than 100 national and international conferences, is mainly devoted to the investigation of reaction mechanisms in organometallic platinum(II) complexes and the interaction of metal complexes with biologically relevant systems. Recently, the interest has been focused on aggregative phenomena in aqueous and non-aqueous solutions and supramolecular assembling of porphyrins on biological matrices and in confined microenvironments, with special emphasis on the expression and transmission of chirality, through a variety of spectroscopic (UV/Vis, IR, NMR, fluorescence emission and circular dichroism) and light scattering techniques (elastic, dynamic and resonant).
