CENTI Gabriele

[April 2026] Gabriele Centi is Full Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Messina, Italy, and President of the European Catalysis Research Institute (ERIC). His research interests include applied heterogeneous catalysis, sustainable energy and chemical processes, green and sustainable chemistry, H2 production and use, biomass conversion, and environmental protection.
He was the coordinator of the EU Network of Excellence IDECAT and the President of IACS (International Association of Catalysis Societies) and EFCATS (European Federation of Catalysis Societies). He has been coordinator or PI in over twenty-five EU projects, as well as in many other national and industrial projects. He coordinated an ERC Synergy project on plasma catalysis and an ERC PoC project on solar H2 production. He was also a member of the board of SUNERGY, the European solar fuels initiative, as well as of the European Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, of which he was the coordinator for Italy.
He has received numerous awards, including the International Fellowship Initiative of the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Humboldt Research Award, and in 2026 he was named an Honorary Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society. He is involved in various editorial activities (ChemSusChem, Journal of Energy Chemistry, etc.). He has chaired numerous international conferences, including Europacat 2017 in Florence and the 16th International Conference on Zeolite in collaboration with the 7th International Symposium on Mesostructured Materials (Sorrento, Italy, 2010), and the 2025 International Conference on Environmental Catalysis.
He is the author of over 650 scientific publications, 12 books, and editor of over 20 special issues of journals. His current h-index is 104 with approximately 46,000 citations and over 430 articles with more than 10 citations (Google Scholar, April 2026).
