Description
Ferdinando Ofria is Associate Professor of Economic Policy at the University of Messina. He received his PhD in Economics and Development Policy from the University of Naples “Federico II”.
He is the author of about 120 scientific publications. In 2002 he received the SVIMEZ “Pasquale Saraceno” Award for the book The Impact of Crime on the Productivity of the Private Sector of the Economy.
His research activity focuses on economic policy and economic development, with particular reference to regional productivity disparities, the economics of crime, and the role of institutions in economic growth. His work also addresses market failures and public policies for the development of Southern Italy, as well as the dynamics of territorial development.
He is Scientific Coordinator of the University of Messina research unit in the PRIN 2022 project. He was also appointed Expert to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Counterfeiting, participating in parliamentary hearings as an academic expert.
Alongside his research and teaching activities, he is engaged in third mission and public engagement activities, taking part in science communication initiatives, public events and discussions with institutions and local stakeholders on issues related to economic development and public policy.
He also serves as a scientific referee for national and international institutions and academic journals.
He currently serves as Chair of the Joint Faculty–Student Committee of the Department of Economics at the University of Messina.
