Abstract:
G. Forni, «Views from the past on feminicide». Is it possible to view the texts of our past from a different perspective? Can Ludovico Ariosto’s «Orlando Furioso» be read in the context of today’s phenomenon of femicide? Does Ariosto really consider Orlando’s madness justifiable solely because it stems from a crisis of jealousy? Or does that central story of the poem have an entirely different meaning and should it also be read in relation to Orlando’s failure to commit femicide against Angelica during his madness? This essay reinterprets specific episodes of «Orlando Furioso» as traces to outline the changing Renaissance sensibility towards femicide.
