Coupled LC-GC is a very powerful two-dimensional system and has potential for substantial time saving in sample separation and sample clean-up. Moreover, efficient elimination of interfering components, better repeatability, and improvement of quantification are possible. This paper provides an overview of the LC-GC transfer techniques developed from its introduction over the last two decades. This review is restricted to direct transfer techniques.
