Description
Chiara Genovese took the master degree in Industrial Chemistry in 2003 at the University of Messina with first class honors. After her master degree she joined to the Laboratory of Catalysis for Sustainable Production and Energy (CASPE) in Messina, acquiring a wide experience in the development of materials and processes for a sustainable production of energy and alternative green fuels. In 2008 obtained her PhD in Engineering and Chemistry of Materials (Univ. of Messina), discussing a thesis about innovative catalytic processes for Hydrogen separation. In 2008 she obtained the Young Researcher Award by the Academic Senate of University of Messina, for the scientific results obtained during the PhD activity.
In 2017 she became a Junior Researcher in the framework of A-LEAF Project (H2020 _FETPROACT-01-2016-RIA) within the INSTM (National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology). In 2017 she obtained the National qualification as Associate Professor in Industrial chemistry (03/C2). In 2019 she became Junior Researcher (RTD-A) in the Academic Discipline 03/C2 (Industrial Chemistry) and from 2021 she is Senior Researcher (RTD-B) in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Messina. From 2024 she is Associate Professor in Industrial Chemistry.
She is a member of the Teaching Committee of the International Doctoral School in “Advanced Catalytic Processes for Using Renewable Energy Sources -ACCESS” at the University of Messina. During the last years, she has supervised many master theses, bachelor theses and PhD theses. She has been involved from 2003 in many multidisciplinary national and international research projects also coordinating the research activities of many work packages.
The main scientific interests concern the fields of the heterogeneous catalysis with special emphasis on the development of novel technologies for the production of chemicals, fuels and chemical energy storage vectors. Her recent scientific activity is centered on the development of novel electrodes for photo - electrocatalytic conversion of CO2 into fuels and value-added chemicals by using solar energy, for water photo-electrolysis and methane photocoupling. She is currently working also on the design of innovative catalysts able to operate in synergy with non-thermal plasma, for small molecules conversion processes (methane, CO2 and Nitrogen) in the framework of the project ERC Synergy SCOPE. The scientific activity is documented by more than 53 publications in scientific journals (ISI/Scopus) and more than 70 contributions to international and national conferences.
