Description
Full professor in 'Rural buildings and agro-forest landscape planning' (AGR/10) at the University of Messina, Department of Veterinary Sciences. Graduated cum laude in Forestry Sciences at the University of Reggio Calabria, Ph.D. in Environmental and Agro-forestry Engineering. Previously, Associate professor at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria.
Member of AIIA (Italian Association of Agricultural Engineering), CIGR (Commission International du Génie Rural), AgEng (International Association of Agricultural Engineers), European Geosciences Union (EGU), and Italian Association of Remote Sensing (AIT).
Member of the Teaching Staff of the Ph.D. Course at 'Mediterranea' University of Reggio Calabria in “Agricultural, Food and Forestry Sciences”.
Member of the Programme Committee of the International Conference on Geographical Analysis, Urban Modeling, and Spatial Statistics within the International Conference ICCSA. Guest Editor for the Special Issues of journals Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050), ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information (ISSN 2220-9964), Remote Sensing (ISSN 2072-4292): “Machine Learning Using High-Resolution Remote Sensing Datasets”, “Multi-Sensor Data Fusion of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) Remote Sensing for Environmental Applications”, and "Big Data and Remote Sensing for Smart Forestry".
His main research interests focus on sustainable landscape planning, land cover and land use change dynamics, landscape services, geospatial information in decision support systems, spatial multi-criteria evaluation, landscape analysis and interpretation, remote sensing of vegetation, geographic object-based image analysis, machine learning, satellite, and UAV image processing.
He authored more than 130 publications in these research fields. Member of the editorial board of Remote Sensing (ISSN 2072-4292), Land (ISSN 2073-445X), and LaborEst (ISSN 2421-3187). Associate Editor of the journal Frontiers in Environmental Science (ISSN 2296-665X).
