Description
Edoardo Proverbio, born in 1963, obtained on 1988 his Master's degree (MEng) cum laude in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Rome, Italy. He was from 4/1991 to 10/1998 Assistant Professor in Science and Technology of Materials at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Rome, Italy, from 11/1998 to 06/2005 Associate Professor of Science and Technology of Materials at the University of Messina, Messina, Italy. He is currently full Professor of Science and Technology of Materials at the University of Messina, Messina, Italy.
Academic responsibilities:
• Chairman of the Board of the Degree Course in Industrial Engineering (BEng) from 2004 trough 2010, from 2015 to 2018, from 2019 to 2021.
• Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Industrial Chemistry and Engineering at the University of Messina (2012-2014).
• Head of Department of Industrial Chemistry and Materials Engineering at the University of Messina (2011-2013)
• Member of the Board for the evaluation of research projects in the Industrial and Information Area (09) of the University of Messina – Years 2008-10

Research fields:
• Corrosion and protection of metals (Corrosion monitoring, Corrosion in refinery, Corrosion of metals in concrete, Stress corrosion cracking, Failure analysis);
• Application of NDT technique (in particular Acoustic Emission) for corrosion monitoring and damage detection in materials (developments of tools for AE data analysis: e.g. multivariate procedure, PCA, SOM, neural networks);
• Durability of materials;
• Durability of reinforced concrete structures (Non destructive techniques applied to civil engineering);
• Functional coatings (organic inorganic hybrid coatings for application in heat pump technology and for corrosion protection);
• Materials science (synthesis and characterization of oxide ceramic and complex oxide ceramic systems, corrosion of non-oxide ceramics, synthesis and characterization of cellular materials and metal foams).
