Description
Claudio Iuppa was born in Enna on August 7, 1985. On July 19, 2011, he graduated in Environmental and Territorial Engineering from the University of Catania with a final grade of 110/110 cum laude. Since February 3, 2015, he has been registered with the Professional Register of Engineers of the Province of Catania (registration number 6993).
In January 2016, he obtained his PhD in Hydraulic, Sanitary-Environmental and Transport Infrastructure Engineering – XXVIII Cycle at the University of Catania, defending the thesis “Optimization of rubble mound breakwaters for wave energy extraction,” supervised by Prof. Eng. Enrico Foti. From November 2015 to October 30, 2017, he provided technical support services for the company Consorzio Venezia Nuova (CVN). From January 2018 to May 2018, he held a Research Fellowship on “Regional-scale wave modeling” at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Catania. From May 2018 to November 2020, he was a Research Fellow in the ICAR/01 Hydraulics sector at the same department.
In 2019, he was appointed Adjunct Subject Expert (“Cultore della Materia”) for the course “Coastal and Port Engineering” (SSD ICAR/01 – Hydraulics) at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Catania. In May 2020, he was commissioned by the Office of the Government Commissioner for Hydrogeological Instability in the Sicilian Region (under Laws no. 116/2014 and no. 164/2014) to provide technical support for the preparation of the Regional Coastal Erosion Plan for Sicily (PRCEC).
Since December 2020, he has been a fixed-term Researcher (Art. 24, paragraph 3, letter a) of Law no. 240/2010) in the SSD ICAR/01 – Hydraulics at the Department of Engineering of the University of Messina. On May 4, 2022, he was appointed Scientific Coordinator of the agreement titled “Study and research activities aimed at developing a maritime hydraulic study to support urban redevelopment actions initiated by the Port Authority of the Strait in the Boccetta-Annunziata area,” between the Port System Authority of the Strait and the Department of Engineering of the University of Messina.
On January 31, 2022, following the National Scientific Qualification procedures (ASN) issued by Directorial Decree no. 553/2021, as amended by Decree no. 589/2021, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification for the role of Associate Professor in the competition sector 08/A1 – Hydraulics, Hydrology, Hydraulic and Maritime Constructions.
From March 2023 to February 2026, he served as a fixed-term Researcher (Art. 24, paragraph 3, letter b) of Law no. 240/2010) in SSD ICAR/01 – Hydraulics at the Department of Engineering of the University of Messina. From November 2023 to January 2026, he was the National Scientific Coordinator of the MINOSSE project, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) under Mission 4 – Component 2 “From Research to Business,” Investment 1.1 “Fund for the National Research Program (PNR) and Projects of National Interest (PRIN)” within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Since March 2026, he has been an Associate Professor at the University of Messina.
He currently teaches the following courses: Fundamentals of Hydraulics of Natural Systems (Module B, 6 ECTS), Hydraulics (Module B, 6 ECTS) for the Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (L-7), and Hydraulics and Hydrography (6 ECTS) for the Master’s Degree in Maritime and Air Transport Science and Logistics (LM-72).
