CURRENT POSITION: Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry (SSD CHIM/08).
AFFILIATION: Department of Chemistry, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences (University of Messina).
EDUCATION:
•1983 - Degree with honour in Pharmacy at University of Messina.
•1990 - Degree with honour in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at University of Messina.
•1990 - PhD in Pharmacognosy.
•1992 – Medicinal Chemistry Researcher (SSD C07X-Medicinal Chemistry, and then SSD CHIM/08-Medicinal Chemistry) at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Reggio Calabria, then University of Catanzaro.
•2001 - Associate Professor (SSD CHIM/08-Medicinal Chemistry) at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Messina.

TEACHING ACTIVITY:
Since 2001 she has been continuously teaching as a holder of various courses, within SSD CHIM/08-Medicinal Chemistry, for the Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Technology Degree Course (CTF), the Pharmacy Degree Course, the Biotechnology Degree Course and for the School of Specialization in Hospital Pharmacy of the University of Messina. Currently, she is responsible for the teaching of Advanced Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Technology Degree Course) and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (Biotechnology Degree Course).

DIRECTIVE ASSIGNMENTS and RESEARCH PROJECTS:
Member of Guarantee Commission (2020-2022); Member of Academic Senate, as representative of the Chemistry Area 03 (2013-2015); Member of the Scientific Committee of the PhD program in ‘Chemical Sciences’ (2013-2016); Member of the Scientific Committee of the PhD program in ‘Pharmaceutical Sciences’ (2005-2012).

RESEARCH ACTIVITY:
The research activity is documented by the publication of a monograph, a university book “Compendio di Biotecnologie Farmaceutiche, EdiSES, second edition (in press)”, that discusses basic principles of the biotechnological sciences applied to drug discovery and industrial development of biotechnology-produced pharmaceuticals; by the publication, as co-author, of a chapter of a university book “Chimica Farmaceutica, CEA-Zanichelli (1st and 2nd edition)”; by numerous scientific papers published in the most qualified international journals; by numerous communications at international and national meetings.
Current research interests are focused on design and set up of advanced analytical methodologies in drug discovery and development:
• Development and validation of analytical methods for the analysis of drugs, bioactive compounds, cyclodextrin/drug systems, by chromatographic and spectroscopic technologies;
• Development of advanced separation methods, based on multidimensional chromatographic techniques, in combination with mass spectrometry, for quali-quantitative characterization of bioactive compounds in in complex natural matrices.
