Description
Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, Postgraduate Degree in Pharmacognosy, PhD in Pharmacognosy, Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Biology (University of Messina, 1994-1998), Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Biology of the University of Messina, currently studies the potential anti-angiogenic or anti-melanogenic activity of plant origin molecules and teaches Medicinal Plants Biology in the Master's Degree Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and Pharmaceutical Botany in the Master’s Degree Course in Pharmacy.
•Research activity. It concerns: the quality control of vegetable drugs by means qualitative and quantitative microscopic analysis; the evaluation of the "in vivo" and "in vitro" biological activities of extracts obtained to native medicinal plants and vegetable drugs employed in the African and Middle-American traditional medicine; the identification of molecules of natural origin with anti-angiogenic activity or able to inhibit the melanogenesis. It was funded by Research Projects of Relevant National Interest (PRIN), National Operational Programs (PON), University Research Projects (PRA), Fund for basic research activities (FFABR). Referee of international scientific journals and of research projects.
•Teaching activity. 1998-2023. He taught: Pharmaceutical Plant Biology in the Master's Degree Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology; Pharmaceutical Botany in the Master's Degree Course in Pharmacy; Pharmaceutical Plant Biology, Applied Pharmaceutical Botany, Metabolism and secondary products of plants, Biotechnology of Medicinal Plants in the Degree Courses of the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies Class; Phytochemistry in the Biotechnology Degree Course; Applied pharmaceutical botany in the Postgraduate Degree in Pharmacognosy; Pharmaceutical biology in the Postgraduate Degree in Dermatology and Venereology; in the PhD in Pharmacognosy; in the PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
•Academic activity. 2001-2004. Chairman of Council of Master Degree Course in Pharmacy. 2002-2004: Vice Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, of the Degree Course in Herbal Sciences and Technologies and of the Degree Course in Scientific Drug Information. 2004-2007: Coordinator of Master’s Degree Course in Pharmacy and Vice Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. 2007- 2015: Coordinator of Master’s Degree Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and Vice Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Course in Pharmacy. 2005-2014: Referent of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the Evaluation Unit of the University of Messina. 2007-2008: Delegate of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the University Commission of the «Interaction Project» within the 2000-2006 PON «Scientific Research, Technological Development, Higher Education». 2012-2015: Delegate for teaching of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Products. 2015-2025 member of the Joint Commission Professors-Students of the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences.
•Other activities. 2000-2022. President or component of State examination commissions for the qualification to practice the profession of Pharmacist.
