Roberto Amato graduated with a degree in Mathematics on October 5, 1981, with highest honors (*summa cum laude*), from the Faculty of Science at the University of Messina.
From July 11 to August 14, 1982, he attended the Perugia Summer Mathematics Courses.
In November 1983, following a competitive selection process, he was awarded a scholarship to attend courses in Functional Analysis at the International School for Advanced Studies (S.I.S.S.A.) in Trieste. He retained this scholarship, successfully passing all required examinations, until October 5, 1987.
During the 1984/85 Academic Year, he obtained the research degree of *Magister Philosophiae* from the aforementioned School, graduating with highest honors (*summa cum laude*).
In February 1987, he sat the examinations for an open competition for the position of University Researcher at the University of Messina, Group 90.
Having been selected, he took up his appointment on October 5, 1987, as a Researcher at the Faculty of Science of the University of Messina, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics.
In September 1991, he was confirmed as a permanent Researcher (Group 90), a position he continues to hold.
In 2013, he transferred to the Department of Engineering at the University of Messina.
From 1981 to the present, he has participated in numerous mathematical conferences and congresses in Italy, presenting short scientific communications at several of them.
His scientific research initially focused on Number Theory and later on Functional Analysis. In the latter field, he studied, in particular, differentiability for parabolic systems and the regularity of solutions to such systems. He also investigated non-variational solutions to the Neumann boundary value problem associated with nonlinear elliptic operators. More recently, he has returned to research in Number Theory.
His research activities have resulted in the publication of several papers authored solely by him.
His teaching activity has been carried out within the Degree Programs in Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Engineering, Materials Engineering, Navigation Science and Technology, Nutraceutical Sciences and Functional Foods, Industrial Engineering, and Electronic and Computer Engineering.
