Scientific activity.
The research activity was directed to the following studies:
- characterization of the biochemical properties of a copper oxidase partialy purified from the tunicate Styela plicata;
- identification, by site-directed mutagenesis, of the aminoacidic residues responsable for the interaction of the protein Fet3, from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, with reduced iron and with the permease Ftr1;
- determination of the mechanism of the protein Fet3 degradation in the presence of reduced iron in the medium;
- influence of iNOS on COX2 activity in a carrageenan-induced pleurisy;
- regulation of some genes expression involved in the homeostasis of iron in the central nervous system, using mammal cells as model;
- partial isolation of a toxin with hemolytic activity from the jellyfish nematocyst of Pelagia noctiluca;
- identification, in psychrophyle bacteria, of some genes involved in the degradation of some clorate aromatic substances.
- study of high affinity iron transport in diatoms.
- expression analysis of a protease of the pathogenic bacterium Vibrio anguillarum;
- study of the expression of some genes involved in pathogenicity mechanisms in the fungus Candida and Sporothrix spp.;
- study of the expression of some mammalian genes involved in iron metabolism in copper deficiency condition.
