Sappho, Fr. 88 Voigt (P.Oxy. 2290 + P.Oxy. 4411): a Re-Appraisal

Il contributo si incentra su Sapph. fr. 88 V. già noto grazie a P.Oxy. XXI 2290. Nel 2000 Martin Steinrück ha notato come alcuni frustoli di P.Oxy. 4411 (edito come un papiro di comedia attica) si sovrappongono parzialmente e integrano P.Oxy. 2290, in modo tale da guadagnare alcune nuove sillabe al testo saffico di fr. 88 V. Più recentemente Steinrück ha aggiunto P.Oxy. 4411, frr. 66, 67e 84 al primo collage. Nel presente articolo si dimostra come le nuove proposte di Steinrück non possano essere accolte per ragioni materiali e testuali. Inoltre, una rinnovata analisi di P.Oxy. 4411 dimostra come altri frustoli (frr. 51 e 78) possono essere ascritti al gruppo eolico. The paper is centered on Sappho, fr. 88 V. already known by P.Oxy. XXI 2290; in 2000 Martin Steinrück recognised that some fragments of P.Oxy. LXIV 4411 (published as a papyrus of Attic comedy) partially overlap with and supplement P.Oxy. 2290, with the result that for some lines of S. fr. 88 some syllables more of Sappho’s text could be gained. More recently Steinrück has added frr. 66, 67 and 84 of the same papyrus to his previous collage. In this paper we argue that the new Steinrück’s suggestions cannot be accepted on the basis of the physical and textual data; moreover, further analysis of P.Oxy. 4411 suggests that also other scraps (frr. 51 and 78) also may in fact be linked to the Aeolic group.
