abstract:
PGM VI describes a magical operation designed to obtain an oracle from Apollo. The papyrus begins with a prayer that the magician will perform, in which the god is invoked as Helios, Phoebus crowned with laurel. It follows the invocation to Selene, the virgin Daphne Phoebus companion, so that the magician can hear the singing of “god’s precepts in the dark night”. Cassandra, Alexandra, Taraxandra? It is perhaps a reminder of the prophetess par excellence, a “Sybil “ inspired by Apollo?
