Remote Sensing Data and GIS Technology to Analyze the Land Use and Land Cover Changes: A Case Study in Sicily

Publication Date:

abstract:
Climate change certainly leads to changes in land use. The trend is certainly a reduction in rainfall and therefore the territory is becoming increasingly arid. Land use and land cover (LULC) change analysis is a systematic technique that aids in the comprehension of these phenomena especially by analyzing space-time changes. The objective of this study is to identify the changeover of land-use changes in South-eastern of the Sicily for the two periods 2018 and 2023 using a Sentinel 2 remote sensing data. In particular, GIS technology was used both for the classification of land use and for the calculation of the spectral index.
