Abstract:
The immuno-inflammatory response may underlie epileptic disorders. In its turn, hyperhomocysteinemia may synergically
sustain the immuno-inflammatory response.32 patientswith epilepsy and autoimmune disorderswere recruited,
and divided into four subgroups including antiphospholipids syndrome,acute dysseminated encephalomyelitis,
Rasmussen syndrome,and others (celiachia,uveitis, lupus).The rate of Hcy and MTHFR polymorphisms was assessed
in the whole sample and in the single subgroups.A high rate of Hcy and MTHFR polymorphisms was found in our
series. Folates supplementation may coadiuve the antiepileptic treatment in such patients.
