Abstract:
This article presents again, basing it upon many new data, the hypothesis, put forward twenty years by the present writer, that KIŠki of the Ebla texts is to be identified with a town of the Khabur region, bordering with Nagar, and not with the Babylonian city. Most likely several wars opposed the Syrian KIŠki, as well as Nagar, to Mary, while Ebla became its ally during the period of the vizier Ibbi-Zikir, as a dynastic marriage and a good deal of commercial exchanges testify. A king of the Syrian KIŠki was I/Uskun-Nunu, a high official who removed his master from the throne, not differently, according to the historical tradition, from Sargon towards U-Zababa, the king of the Babylonian KIŠki.
