Abstract:
This paper investigates the mechanisms of ion diffusion in Ag2S:AgPO3 glasses. By comparing conductivity and ultrasonic attenuation data we derive a number of microscopic parameters for Ag+ diffusion, and find that Ag2S-phosphates have a behaviour intermediate between that of AgI-doped and network-modified glasses. The implication that the sulphide acts both as an interstitial dopant and as a network modifier is confirmed by 31P NMR; the magic angle spinning (MAS) spectra reveal a complex scheme of reactions between the sulphide and the metaphosphate.
