Abstract:
The aim of this article is to verify which social-demographic variables can have
a statistically significant weight on the lifestyle of immigrants’ sons that had
chosen to live in a city of the South Italy. We focused our attention on the whole of
the foreign pupils who live in Messina and attend the firsts, seconds and third
classes of the government middle schools. They received a questionnaire that
allows to evaluate the degree of their satisfaction towards the place where they live,
on the bases of their degree of integration and adaptation. The descriptive analysis
puts in evidence that they mainly live in the IV district or in the centre of the city.
The chosen approach is the multilevel modelling, due to the hierarchical nature of
the data. With reference to the individual – context interaction, the analysis allows
to affirm that the territorial collocation is a particularly significant variable at
macro level.
A further examination through techniques of multidimensional analysis is desirable
for a more specific study of the phenomenon.
