Abstract:
Ectopic breast tissue occurs in 0,4-6 per cent of the general population. Usually, these tissues develop along the embryonic milk line but others sites are reported in the literature. Accessory breasts are commonly axillaries and can undergo to hormones changes. Same pathologies of normally positioned breasts can occur in ectopic breast tissue, including carcinoma, therefore they require traditionally senologic flow-chart and imaging strategies (mammography, ultrasography and cytology). The authors report their experience about five patients with ectopic breast cancer. Between 2003 to 2007, we observed 5 female patients with ectopic breast cancer. We treated our patients with surgical resection of the neoplasia. Hystological diagnosis detected five neoplastic lesions: two fibro-lipomatous masses, one granulous cells cancer and two malignant lesions ( one lobular infiltrated cancer and one sudoriferous glands cancer). In consideration of potentially malignancy transformation of accessory breasts, careful physician evaluation is needed. Surgery are currently suggested in the suspect of malignancy, in the symptomatic cases and for cosmetic problems.
