Abstract:
Field Survey in the Lao-Mercure Valley : Methodologies and First Results · The Lao-Mercure
Valley is a Quaternary age lake basin, characterized by a large depression that includes a series
of municipalities pertaining to the provinces of Potenza and Cosenza. Beyond the contemporary
political borders, it was above all the geomorphological characteristics that influenced the settlement
dynamics in the district, connected both to the Noce valley and to the territory of Sibari.
The results of the recent researches carried out by the DiCAM of the University of Messina, along
with previous data, now allow us to reconstruct the history of a territory interested by Oenotrian,
Lucanian and then Roman settlements.
