Abstract:
This paper focuses on «shell shock», the psychic trauma provoked by the First World War. The «shell-shocked man» was too traumatized and mentally broken to continue fighting the war. This article also outlines the history of trauma treatment policies and control strategies of the anormality in traumatized soldiers of the First World War, by taking into consideration the soldiers confined to Racconigi Asylum, in the province of Cuneo, between 1909 and 1919.
