Abstract:
The present study aimed to verify whether a-inhibin expression
occurs in canine ovarian neoplasms. 19 ovarian neoplasms of bitches following ovariohysterectomy, were investigated using immunohistochemistry for alpha inhibin subunit antigen. The selected neoplasms included 6 stromal tumours, 9
epithelial tumours and 4 germ cell tumours. A strong a-inhibin immunostaining was found in all granulosa cell tumours. In comparison, thecomas showed a moderate, focal immunoreaction, but negative results were common in both epithelial and germ-cell neoplasms. Alpha inhibin
can be regarded as a histogenetic marker of stromal tumours.
